Lebanon is located in the Middle East, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, between Israel and Syria. Lebanon is bounded on the north and east by Syria, Israel on the south and on the west by the Mediterranean Sea; it has a total area of 10,400 km2.
Lebanon is of a narrow coastal plain; El Beqaa (BekaaValley) separates Lebanon and Anti-LebanonMountains, the highest point is Qurnat as Sawda' 3,088 m.
The climate in Lebanon is Mediterranean; mild to cool, wet winters with hot, dry summers; Lebanon Mountains experience heavy winter snows.
The 1975-91 civil war seriously damaged Lebanon's economic infrastructure, cut national output by half. In the years since, Lebanon has rebuilt much of its war-torn physical and financial infrastructure by borrowing heavily-mostly from domestic banks. Agricultural products are citrus, grapes, tomatoes, apples, vegetables, potatoes, olives, tobacco; sheep and goats.
Lebanon does not harbour Desert Locust breeding areas; the Plant Protection Department of the Ministry of Agriculture based in Beirut is responsible for Desert Locust control in case of an emergency situation.
